Victoria and Ben’s Weddingin Deer Isle, Maine
14 Jul 2022, Posted by Wedding Photography inJoin us in congratulating Victoria and Ben! These two tied the knot after seven years together during a lovely Quaker-style ceremony at a private residence in Deer Isle, Maine.
Victoria and Ben first met in September of 2013 in a rather random way. Ben was in need of a wrench to fix his bike, and Victoria (whom he had never met) lent him one. Ben took Victoria’s number so he could return the wrench, but he promptly forgot her name. So he entered her number into his phone as “Wrench” and returned the tool a few days later. Fast forward to March of 2015, and Victoria and Ben had actually started dating. It was at this time that Ben realized he still had Victoria listed as “Wrench” in his phone. How romantic! Fortunately, that didn’t put an end to their relationship. Rather, it was just one of many laughs along the way.
When the time came, Victoria knew she wanted to be the one to propose. So, for their 2π (6.28 year) anniversary, she planned a backpacking trip into the Maroon Bells area of Colorado. There, Victoria proposed to Ben with a redwood ring near the campsite. It was the perfect engagement, as these two love hiking together.
Victoria and Ben chose to get married in Maine, because Ben and his family spent a lot of time in Brooksville when he was growing up. Maine was therefore the perfect fit, both for its beauty and for its ties to Ben’s childhood.
On the big day, everyone was so excited! Victoria and Ben had only planned a small wedding with a little over 30 guests. But because Victoria and Ben bring joy and excitement with them everywhere they go, the energy level was easily on par with weddings two or three times larger. We’ve seen a lot of weddings, and this might have been the most genuinely happy group of people we’ve ever seen – just two families so happy to become one bigger family.
The ceremony was very nice, filled with readings, a ring warming, some singing, and many words of love and encouragement. The weather was perfect (a brief rain interlude notwithstanding), warm enough for guests while providing enough cloud cover to make our lives so much easier.
Victoria and Ben were gracious enough to allow us three different opportunities throughout the day for couples portraits: the first look, immediately after the ceremony, and later just before sunset. While none of the sessions were super long (and didn’t need to be), they allowed us to capture a variety of pictures for the happy couple and do it in a manner that was relaxed and fun. We always encourage our couples to break their portraits up throughout the day for exactly this reason, and so they’re never kept too long from their guests.
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t say something about Victoria and Ben’s dancing. They love to swing dance, and they managed to not only incorporate a bit of swing into their first dance, they also got all of their guests to join in the fun at one point or another. Consistent with our earlier comment, we rarely see so much (and such enthusiastic) dancing even at weddings four times the size! It made for a great time.
We really enjoyed spending the day with Victoria and Ben, and we wish them a lifetime of happiness together. Below are some of our favorite pictures from throughout their day, and, if you’re looking to see more from this outstanding couple, be sure to check out their engagement blog, too!
