Backyard Maine Wedding Photographer: Sarah and David

Last August, Sarah and David were married on a beautiful stretch of family farmland in Houlton, Maine. Out of of all our couples, these two are perhaps the hardest working that Matt and I have ever met! In the months leading up to their wedding, Sarah and David transformed a giant stretch of uncultivated land into a beautiful green lawn, working tirelessly to till the land and plant grass seed. By the time their wedding day arrived, you never would have guessed that the grass hadn’t been there all along. It was the perfect spot for the ceremony, tent, and festivities.

This dedicated couple had their efforts rewarded with beautiful weather – plenty of sun, but not too hot. Sarah got ready at her sister’s house just down the hill from the field, and David got ready at home a few miles away. They were both so happy and excited, and it was obvious that neither one of them could wait for the ceremony.

Soon it was time to get married! The field and tent rested at the end of a long, winding dirt road. With its tall, white peaks, the tent beckoned guests to come and join the celebration. David had created an arbor out of birch trees, and he stood waiting expectantly for Sarah. When she walked down the aisle, David’s face lit up with the biggest grin. It was so fun to watch!

When it came time for formals, these two were extremely cute. Matt and I had a good idea of what to expect, because we had photographed their engagement session several weeks earlier in Bar Harbor. That session was equally adorable. Now that they were officially husband and wife, Sarah and David couldn’t stop laughing and smiling together. It made for some great pictures!

The reception was full of mingling and dancing. All throughout the evening, guests made good use of Sarah and David’s lawn, and kids off all ages were running around playing games. It wasn’t long before everyone was dancing the Hora, and Sarah and David were hoisted high into the air. Talk about a good time! The fun lasted long into the night, with a large bonfire there to keep everyone cozy.

It was a pleasure photographing Sarah and David’s wedding, and Matt and I wish them nothing but happiness! Below are some of my favorites pictures from throughout their special day.
