Sabine and Sam’s Backyard Weddingin Scarborough, Maine
25 Oct 2019, Posted by Wedding Photography inFate has a funny way of bringing people together. Sabine and Sam actually went to high school together, but they were two years apart and didn’t really know each other at the time. Many years later, after plenty of life’s twists and turns, Sabine found herself back home at her elementary school speaking to students as part of a panel. There, she met the school’s director, who just so happened to be Sam’s father. He suggested that Sabine and Sam connect, since Sabine had returned to the area after 13 years and was looking to meet new people.
Sabine got in touch with Sam, and the two of them planned to get dinner the following week. Neither of them was sure whether it was a date or not, but it was sure to be fun either way. Well, as luck would have it, the universe really wanted to bring Sabine and Sam closer together, sooner. A few days before they were supposed to get dinner, Sabine bumped into Sam at the market. It was such a fun, albeit brief, encounter that they both walked away hoping their upcoming dinner was, in fact, a date. Sabine was so moved and flustered that she actually got into a minor fender bender after leaving the market!
Needless to say, dinner went great, and Sabine and Sam have been together ever since. Having spent time with the two of them ourselves, we can definitely attest that they are perfect for each other in every way. They’re such a happy, lovestruck couple who make each other laugh and laugh and laugh – as you can see from the pictures below!
Even though they live in Rhode Island, Sabine and Sam chose to get married in Maine, because they’ve shared many great memories there. Sabine’s mother owns a house in Scarborough, and Sabine and Sam have spent many a long weekend visiting. On their one-year anniversary, they drove up to Maine late on a Friday. They had each gotten each other gifts, and Sam’s gift was a handmade book full of pictures and stories from their first year together. At the end of the book was an engagement ring. Talk about a happy ending! Or should I say, beginning?
It seemed only natural, then, that Sabine and Sam should get married in Maine at the same house, and that’s just what they did. They brought in a tent, decked out the barn, and strung lights and decorations all over to create the perfect reception space. For the ceremony, a family friend was kind enough to invite them onto their nearby oceanfront property, which was simply stunning. Sam’s father officiated a heartfelt ceremony, and Sabine and Sam had some of the most tender and sincere wedding vows we’ve ever heard. It was a wonderful moment, and we felt privileged to photograph it.
Rather than drive to the reception, everyone fell in line behind the band for a New Orleans-inspired wedding parade. For the better part of a mile, Sabine and Sam’s joy filled the streets of Scarborough, as everyone danced and sung along to the brass music.
The rest of the evening was filled with cocktails, toasts, dinner, and lots and lots of dancing. Silver Arrow Band put on a great show, and the barn was packed with people dancing all night long.
We had such a great time with Sabine and Sam. Every little part of their day, from the joy, to the festivities, to Sabine’s colorful, non-traditional wedding dress made it a pleasure to photograph, and we couldn’t be happier for these two. Below, you’ll find some of our favorite pictures from Sabine and Sam’s awesome Maine wedding. Take a look!
