Chris and Kari's Maine Wedding at the Bar Harbor Inn

Join us in congratulating Kari and Chris! They enjoy watching movies, watching soccer (Chris said Kari really got him into it), and trying out local brews. Like so many of us, they also plan to travel once things get back to normal.

After they had been dating for some time, Kari and Chris decided to move in together. However, Chris knew he wanted to propose before that happened. So, a week before they were supposed to start living together, Chris visited Kari with a ring, all ready to go. His plan was to propose as soon as Kari opened the door. When he got there, however, he found her cleaning off her car (the area had just received some ice and snow). Undeterred, Chris helped her clean off the car, and then, once they were both inside and warm, he dropped on one knee and popped the question. Kari of course said yes, and the rest is history.

When deciding on a place for their wedding, Kari and Chris had very different ideas of what they wanted. Kari really wanted to get married in the Mountains near Knoxville, Tennessee. However, Chris had grown up on Long Island, and he wanted to be near the water. So, they started looking at locations that would incorporate both requests (mountains and water). Years ago, Chris had visited Bar Harbor with a friend and enjoyed the area. He realized that Bar Harbor might be the perfect spot, and Kari agreed! Ultimately, they chose the Bar Harbor Inn for their ceremony and reception location, one of our favorite venues on the island.

Kari and Chris had one of the most unique and interesting ceremonies that we’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. They took aspects of a Celtic ceremony and combined it with Viking traditions. Like a traditional wedding ceremony, they exchanged vows and rings. But then they added their cake cutting, toasts, signing of the marriage certificate, hand fasting, and first dance all to the ceremony, too. In addition, they found a way to include each of their family members as part of the proceedings, which was great. It was a lot of fun photographing all the festivities!

Afterward, we got to spend some time with the newlyweds, photographing them at various spots along the Inn’s property. Kari couldn’t stop smiling, and Chris couldn’t keep himself from looking at her. It was super sweet! We had such a fantastic time working with this amazing couple. We wish them much happiness together, and we hope they visit Maine again soon!
