Jess and Russ’ Wedding atFort William Henry and the Contented Sole
02 Oct 2017, Posted by Wedding Photography inJoin me in congratulating Jess and Russ! Although they went to high school together, they didn’t start dating until the summer after their senior year. That August, they took their first trip to Maine together, and the rest, as they say, is history! Seven years later, in remembrance of that first trip, these two were married on a beautiful August afternoon at Fort William Henry in New Harbor, Maine.
In case you’ve never been to Fort William Henry, it’s just down the road from a popular Maine attraction you’ve certainly seen (at least in pictures) – Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Jess and Russ love Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, and, even though they weren’t getting married there, they really wanted to get pictures.
As luck would have it, Jess and her family were able to rent a house just a few hundred feet from the Lighthouse, which couldn’t have been more convenient! Once Jess was done with her hair and makeup, Russ stopped by for a first look down toward the water. Then, we all walked over to the Lighthouse and spent the better part of an hour navigating the rocky terrain and taking photos. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and a strong sea breeze kept us from getting too hot. Jess and Russ were so cute together, but I could tell they were anxious to get married!
So, we made the short drive over to Fort William Henry. At the Fort, family and friends had gathered for the wedding ceremony. One of Russ’ groomsmen had had flight troubles that weekend, and it looked like he wasn’t going to make it in time. But somehow he managed to arrive right before the ceremony began, much to everyone’s delight.
The ceremony was lovely. Chairs had been arranged to overlook Pemaquid Harbor and the Fort. Family members gave a series of heartfelt readings, followed by a stone blessing. Then, before long, Jess and Russ were married!
The reception took place at the The Contented Sole, a quaint restaurant that used to be a cannery. The entire restaurant was decorated from floor to ceiling with floral arrangements and details put together by Jess herself. I was so impressed! Every detail was thoughtfully crafted, and everything must have taken an incredible amount of time to make. I should also mention that Jess made her own bouquet, as well as Russ’ boutonniere. Such talent!
As the night progressed, there was plenty of dancing and partying. And, in a really neat twist, Jess and Russ hired a caricaturist. This was a new one for Matt and me! In just five minutes, the caricaturist was able to create cartoon portraits of guests. It seemed like the perfect addition to any party!
Matt and I had such a great time working with Jess and Russ, and we really enjoyed photographing their wedding. Below are some of my favorite pictures from throughout their day. I hope you enjoy!
