Cayla and Stephen’s Wedding Pictures atWest Quoddy Head Light Station
08 Sep 2015, Posted by Featured Post, Wedding Photography inBack in early August, Cayla and Stephen threw a huge party for all their family and friends at West Quoddy Head Light Station in Lubec, Maine – the easternmost town in the United States. The weather was gorgeous, and guests traveled from all over the country to celebrate with this fun couple. It was the perfect day for a wedding!
When Matt and I arrived early in the afternoon, everyone was working tirelessly on the finishing touches. On one end of the grounds was a large tent filled with tables and the dance floor. On the other end of the grounds was the Light Station’s main building, which overlooks the water. That’s where the ceremony was to take place. In between these two big landmarks was, for lack of a better word, a thoroughfare filled with tables and chairs. On each side of the thoroughfare were food tents, each one offering a different selection – from clams to crab to pig. Cayla’s dad had helped to orchestrate this whole setup and had brought his friend, Chef Steve, up from Pennsylvania to do the cooking. It was quite the operation, and it looked very much like an upscale country fair!
Cayla was getting ready in one of the nearby cabins as guests arrived. Her friends helped her with her hair and makeup, and, before long, it was time for the ceremony! Cayla and Stephen had erected a platform so their guests could see them. There, atop the platform overlooking the ocean, they said their vows to one another. It was such a beautiful moment. As Cayla and Stephen walked down the platform and exited the ceremony, guests joined in the celebration by showering them with pine cones and pine needles – a very Maine type of confetti!
For the next several hours, everyone enjoyed the food and festivities. There were a variety of lawn games, from mini-golf, to badminton, to corn hole – you name it. Matt and I had a great time photographing all of the merriment and excitement. As it got closer to dinner, the guests made their way into the tent. Instead of numbers, each table was differentiated by a unique vegetable, and guests had to find their seats using the Latin names for the vegetables. Needless to say, this was a challenge in an area where there was no phone reception or internet (to look up the names)! After dinner, the party continued with dances, toasts, and the cutting of a very special cake made out of cheese. Not a cheesecake, mind you. A series a cheese wheels stacked in the shape of a cake and decorated with organic flowers. How neat!
Matt and I really enjoyed our time photographing Cayla and Stephen’s wedding, and we wish them much happiness in the future! Below are some of my favorite pictures from throughout their day. Enjoy!
