Cassie and Josh’s Backyard Wedding
11 Nov 2015, Posted by Wedding Photography inEvery wedding we photograph is awesome and unique in its own special way. Cassie and Josh’s wedding, however, really stood out because of the immense care, love, and dedication that went into its planning. Cassie and Josh were married on a beautiful September afternoon at Cassie’s parents’ house in Milford, Maine. In the months leading up to the wedding, Cassie’s parents, Tony and Cindy, spent countless hours making every aspect of their home perfect for this momentous occasion, and it really showed.
The grounds were meticulously maintained, and everywhere one looked there were signs, lights, and little details that collectively proclaimed, “this is a special day!” Cassie’s mother designed and put together all sorts of unique and interesting details, and she also arranged all of the floral arrangements. We’re convinced that she should go into the wedding planning business after seeing her talent and creativity!
Cassie’s dad is equally talented. He crafted a beautiful wooden bar and two amazing arbors. The first arbor spanned the better part of twenty feet and was designed to lead everyone toward the ceremony location in the back yard. The second arbor was for the ceremony. It was very organic in its look and feel, and it was made out of apple trees. What was really cool about this second arbor was that the apple trees, though chopped and positioned, had actually started to sprout flowers! These flowers were a lovely backdrop throughout the ceremony as Cassie and Josh said their vows.
All throughout the day, as we walked around taking pictures, Matt and I were in awe of the workmanship, effort, and attention to detail that Cassie’s parents put into the wedding. They truly went all out planning and preparing for Cassie and Josh’s important day. It was quite something.
As part of their wedding ceremony, Cassie and Josh performed a log cutting ceremony. The cutting of the log is an old German custom, and it represents the first obstacle that a couple must overcome together in marriage. Cassie and Josh each took an end of a large wood saw and see-sawed back and forth until they succeeded, together, in cutting the log. It was a fun moment, and it was the first time we had ever photographed such a ceremony! Shortly after that, Cassie and Josh were pronounced husband and wife, which they celebrated with a kiss.
The rest of the day was filled with all sorts of laughter and fun. There were toasts, a cake cutting, good food, and lots of dancing. Before we left for the night, we managed to sneak Cassie and Josh away for a quick kiss under the arbor. How cute!
Matt and I really enjoyed our time with Cassie and Josh, and we wish them nothing but happiness in the future. Below are some of my favorite photographs from throughout their wedding. Enjoy!
